Spring Picture Frame
First you will begin by cutting the cardboard to the size of the frame. I will be using a 8x10 frame from the dollar store, so I will cut two sheets of cardboard to that size. One sheet of cardboard will be the backing, while the other will work as a matte frame. (If you're using a bought frame you can use the insert that comes with it instead of the back sheet of cardboard.) Taking the size of your picture, you will want to cut the inside of the sheet of cardboard with about 1/8 inch overlap around the edges. For example, in using a 4x6 picture, you will cut a square out of the middle of the cardboard sheet at about 4x6. It helps keep the picture in place if you have a bit overlap on the edges, so you could cut it to 3 6/8" x 5 6/8" or whatever size you prefer.
Next you will decorate the matte frame portion of the cardboard. I will be printing vector spring images. You could paint the cardboard frame, use scrap-booking embellishments, or print your own drawings for this portion. Imagination is the key!
Finally, you can assemble your picture to the back sheet of cardboard. If you have a glass frame you can attach it simply using tacky tape or picture glue. If you're not using a glass frame, you will most likely want to glue or decoupage the picture to the sheet of cardboard. Then insert the picture on the sheet of cardboard and the front matte frame cardboard into the frame. And Voila!
